The Sun of Wisdom - Teaching on the nature of appearance and emptiness, was written by Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche. The book was written based on the Noble Nagarjuna's Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way which is one of the most important works of Nagarjuna. Nagarjuna is the pioneering commentator on the Buddha's teachings on the Madhyamika or Middle Way view.
In the Sun of the Wisdom, Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche explains the most important verses on each chapter in a style that illuminates for modern students both the meaning of these profound teachings and how to put them into practice.
Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche was born in eastern Tibet in 1934. He is not only the most prominent scholar but also a yogi master. For many years, Rinpoche roamed the charnel grounds and caves in central Tibet to practice Chod. Later on, he received pointing out instructions from the Sixteen Karmapa and practiced in the caves near Tsurphu. In India, Rinpoche spent nine years at Buxador, where he received his degree and title of khenpo from His Holiness the Karmapa. Rinpoche later received the geshe lharampa degree from His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama in addition to having mastered the teachings of the Gelug and Kagyu lineages.
At the request of the Sixteen Karmapa, Rinpoche went to Europe and began his work of teaching Dharma and training translators in both oral and written Tibetan. Over the years he has trained many Western translators who translating Tibetan into English and various European languages. Rinpoche is well known in many Dharma centers in the U.S., Far East, and Europe. He is also famous for his skill in debate and his ability to present the complex ideas of Buddhism's subtle philosophy in clear and lively way. Many Buddhist groups and educational institutions have used Rinpoche's other book, Progressive Stages of Meditation on Emptiness, to practice. Today, Rinpoche is often regarded as the Milarepa of our time. Currently, Rinpoche travels yearly on teaching tours to the United States and Europe.

New York City Karma Thegsum Chöling is pleased to host the Venerable Khenpo Tsültrim Gyamtso Rinpoche on this day of remembrance in New York City. Rinpoche will teach a selected verse from his recent book The Sun of Wisdom. Each of Rinpoches verses is itself a commentary on The Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way, written by the Noble Nargarjuna, and is a different statement made by the Buddha in the sutras that constitute the second turning of the wheel of Dharma.
Through study, reflection, and meditation we gain an under- standing of the precise nature of genuine reality. Rinpoche also suggests that by recalling these verses again and again, we keep our understanding fresh and stable. He has requested that everyone bring a copy of The Sun of Wisdom, which may be pur-chased at www.namsebangdzo.com or www.amazon.com.

Dzogchen Program: The Direct Leap of Spontaneous Presence
Continuing from last year's Seattle teachings on Trekchö in the Tradition of Ati Yoga , Rinpoche will teach thirteen sessions on "Lhundrup Thögal," or "The Direct Leap of Spontaneous Presence." As prerequisites for this series of teachings, participants must have thoroughly studied the Progressive Stages of Meditation on Emptiness AND either 1) have attended last year's course, or 2) have listened to the tapes from last years course AND at the request of Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, have attended a brief course on Trekchö to be presented by The Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche October 17-18-19 at Nalandabodhi Seattle. Depending on enrollment, the teachings will be given either at Nalandabodhi Seattle 5501 17th Ave. NE, Seattle WA 98105, or in a larger facility in the City of Seattle.
During his first five teaching visits to Seattle, Khenpo Rinpoche gave extensive teachings from the Madhyamaka and Mahamudra traditions of Buddhism, and in 2002 he gave teachings for the first time on the three principal sections of the Dzogchen tradition: Sem De (mind), Long De (expanse), and Men Ngak gi De (meditation instructions). Continuing the Dzogchen teachings, this year Khenpo Rinpoche will present thirteen teaching sessions and three practice sessions on "Lhundrup Thögal" or "The Direct Leap of Spontaneous Presence."
Public Teachings: The Sun of Wisdom
Rinpoche will also give five teachings open to the general public entitled "The Sun of Wisdom." In this series Rinpoche will teach from The Sun of Wisdom, his new book that explains the essence of Nagarjuna's Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way, a classic Buddhist text on the nature of appearance and emptiness. Rinpoche will explain how to use this book as a basis for meditation on the profound true nature of mind. Rinpoche will also teach selections from the vajra songs of the realized masters of India and Tibet. Because Rinpoche is likely to give teachings in the public sessions that are important to what he teaches in the Thögal sessions, full program participation is recommended for Dzogchen participants.

"This existence of ours is as transient as autumn clouds. To watch the birth and death of beings is like looking at the movements of a dance. A lifetime is like a flash of lightning in the sky, rushing by, like a torrent down a steep mountain." -The words of Buddha, quoted by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche
"The whole idea of meditation is to develop an entirely different way of dealing with things, where you have no purpose at all. In fact, meditation is dealing with the question of whether or not there is such a thing as purpose. One is not on the way somewhere. Or rather, one is on the way and is also at the destination, at the same time." - from Meditation in Action by Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche
