Nechung Oracle
His Eminence Nechung Chogtrul Rinpoche Meditation and Teaching on Bodhicitta

Nechung Rinpoche, Ogyen Thinley Choephel, came from Mindrolling Monastery to Nechung Monastery in the 1880's, during the time of the Eighth Nechung Oracle, Shakya Yarphel. Rinpoche became the spiritual guide to the Oracle and the Nechung sangha. Ogyen Thinley Choephel, was recognized as the incarnation of Langdro Kunchok Jungne, who is well known in the history of Tibetan Buddhism as one of the 25 chief disciples of Guru Padmasambhava, the great treasure master Ratna Lingpa.

The next reincarnation of Nechung Rinpoche, Thupten Kunchok Pal Zangpo, was recognized by the Great Thirteenth Dalai Lama. This incarnate Nechung Rinpoche became a great realized master. Under orders of The 13th Dalai Lama and as prophesized by the Nechung Oracle, Rinpoche went to Eastern Tibet, collected the Holy statue of Guru Padmasambava and brought it to be enshrined in the Jokhang Temple so that the Dharma and peace would flourish. Following the Chinese occupation, he returned to Tibet, and was imprisoned for a few months. He escaped from Tibet carrying with him sacred relics into exhile and reached India in 1962. He became a professor at the Ladakh Buddhist Institute (Buddha Vihar) in Delhi. During his stay at the monastery he conferred initiations, oral transmissions and commentaries on the practices unique to the traditions of the Nechung monastery. On August 31, 1982, Nechung Rinpoche passed away. He remained in a state of absorbed meditation for several days.

In 1993, both the 14th Dalai Lama and the Nechung Oracle recognized the reincarnation of the present Nechung Rinpoche. He was born in Lhasa on May 20, 1985. He went to school in Tibet for some years, and was smuggled to India in September 1993. After reaching Dharamsala, he began his studies in earnest at the Nechung Monastery. He was officially enthroned on March 15, 1995. He has successfully completed the memorization of the traditional ritual texts unique to Nechung, and also received extensive initiations from the most Ven. Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche. Currently he is studying Buddhist Philosophy and other subjects at the monastery.

Rinpoche will guide practitioners on the actual path of loving kindness and compassion through the ancient meditation technique of the great Acharyas, Nagarjuna and Asanga. These consist of meditating on Equalizing and Exchanging Oneself with Others and the Seven-fold Meditation on Cause and Effect as the essence of generating the enlightened mind.
